Helpful Information

Billing & Insurance

Sunshine Speech Services does not currently accept insurance and is private pay only. When requested, I can provide families with a superbill to submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement.

Now authorized as a “Direct-Pay Provider” through the Step Up for Students Florida Scholarship!!

Please note: The provision of a superbill does not guarantee you reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider prior to scheduling your sessions for applicability. Sunshine Speech Services can provide you with the necessary paperwork but all families are fully responsible to submit and communicate with the insurance company.

FAQ

  • What ages do you treat?

At Sunshine Speech Services, we treat pediatric clients from birth-21 years old.

  • Where do you provide therapy?

    • Your child’s school or daycare (release forms required)

    • Online from the comfort of your home (decision made based on childs age and participation level)

    • Naturalistic environments (park, library, etc)

The therapy location is based on each specific family’s needs.

  • What does a treatment session look like?

Treatment sessions can last for 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on your child’s specific needs. In general, the speech therapist will target goals based on the initial evaluation. Also, the parent will be updated on progress, given education and teaching strategies, and provided with a home program to continue therapy practices outside of the session.

  • How long does speech therapy usually last?

This is hard to know based on each child and family’s unique situation. There are many factors that affect progress including child motivation, carryover at home, severity of diagnosis, attendance consistency, and caregiver involvement. Your speech therapist will recommend frequency for a 6 month period until goals have been met. Otherwise, therapy will be continued until goals and communication skills have been completed.

  • Can the parent sit in on a treatment session?

Yes! However, there is built in time at the end of the session for parent consult and teaching, where the speech therapist will explain and demonstrate strategies in the session. Many younger children tend to focus better without a parent by their side, but this is individualized from child to child.

  • Can you tell me more about screenings?

If you are unsure whether your child needs therapy, a screening is a great option. A screening is a 10-15 minute interaction between the speech therapist and your child that will help the therapist determine your child’s general level of communication functioning. The fee is $25, however, if you choose to move forward with Sunshine Speech Services the $25 will be used towards your evaluation fee.
